Users can explore family ties, memories, and traditions with this free online experience.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (10 June 2026)— FamilySearch is launching a new free online experience that gives visitors the chance to explore possible family connections to 20 famous historical soccer players from around the world. It is available exclusively online now through 19 July at FamilySearch.org.

    Discover Famous Soccer Relative Connections

Designed with a global audience in mind, the experience is available in 11 languages and is tailored for users in Latin American and European languages, making it easier to access a custom Family Tree, view world soccer stats and facts, add soccer-related family memories, and view detailed personal connections with famous soccer players of the past such, as Robert Charlton from the United Kingdom or Andrés Escobar Saldarriaga from Colombia. Participants can also print a free, personalized, soccer-themed Family Tree keepsake.

Soccer championships offer time to connect with family and perhaps discover one’s personal and family history. Exploring soccer stars in the FamilySearch Family Tree and their homelands is a fun way for individuals to see how deep the love of soccer might run in their ancestry.

The new FamilySearch experience invites fans and families around the world to engage with soccer not just as a sport, but as a shared heritage. According to Collin Smith, global campaigns manager, “Rooting on a favorite sports team can connect us to our heritage. It is about much more than just a game. It is also about those you watch it with—family and friends—and the deep traditions, loyalty, and memories associated with it that can connect generations past, present, and future.”

    See If You’re Related

FamilySearch’s expanded “Are You Related?” soccer experience invites people to remember the fun conversations and long-standing traditions associated with sports in their families. It encourages families to preserve and share fond memories by adding people, stories, photos, and recordings that bring those memories to life in their family tree on the FamilySearch website.

By combining personal memories and new family discoveries with historical records, FamilySearch continues its mission to enable inspiring journeys that bring joy as people discover, preserve, and celebrate family connections. To access the free online discovery experience and explore personal connections, sign in or create a free account at FamilySearch.org. The experience will be available from 1 June through 19 July 2026.
